I have been a professional wedding photographer for over 20 years and have designed hundreds of wedding albums. What I pride myself on is being able to design a wedding album that is thrilling to look at over and over again, even for strangers (as in my sample albums), never mind for yourselves and close family and friends.
There are currently two basic looks for wedding album design and that is the "modern digital" look of several or many pictures to a page and the more traditional look of mostly one picture to a page. I have consistently found that my customers are preferring the more traditional look, yet the "digital montage" look seems to be popular on the internet.
My customers have referred to the digital look as being like a yearbook and I agree. I think that, in general, those albums are too busy and do not really show off the pictures to their best advantage. Although I was ahead of the trends by doing a photojournalistic style of wedding photography 20 years ago, and I was on the cutting edge of fine art wedding photography,
I personally prefer that wedding albums tell the story of the day and offer an exciting adventure that is alive with the personalities of the people involved. I have become well known for creating extraordinary wedding albums that are enjoyable and thrilling and alive.
